WWE Superstar Gunther’s Shocking Revelation About His Wrestling Career

WWE Superstar Gunther is scheduled to have the biggest match of his career against Damian Priest this Saturday at SummerSlam in Cleveland, Ohio. The Ring General suffered his first pinfall loss at WrestleMania 40 against Sami Zayn, which ended his 666-day reign as Intercontinental Champion.

Following the loss, he entered the King of the Ring tournament. He dominated throughout the event by defeating Sheamus, Jey Uso, and Randy Orton to win the tournament. This victory earned him a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam. Damian Priest, who won the title at WrestleMania 40 against Drew McIntyre, has successfully defended the title against Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins.

Priest and Gunther are now poised to clash at WWE’s biggest party of the summer. Since joining WWE, Gunther has consistently impressed, transitioning from his successful NXT tenure to the main roster. The Ring General has made significant strides in his professional wrestling journey. Despite his current achievements, he nearly abandoned his dream of becoming a wrestling star during the early days of his career.

Gunther reveals he almost walked away from wrestling

Gunther reflects on almost leaving professional wrestling a decade before becoming one of his generation’s top stars. Recently, the King of the Ring winner appeared on Shak Wrestling. He discussed how real-life struggles nearly drove him to quit wrestling at that time.

He stated, “I had a day job working only night shifts for nearly three years and wrestling on the weekends. That took a toll that was hard to sustain. My goal was always to make a living off professional wrestling. That was not in sight, so I thought I should call it quits and focus on a career in my real job.

Gunther continued, “I spoke with [Westside Xtreme Wrestling] and said, ‘Either I run a wrestling school for you, and that’s my job, or I think I call it quits.’ They were happy to do that. They wanted to have a wrestling school. They employed me, and since then, professional wrestling has been my main profession.”

Before joining WWE, Gunther was known as Walter and was well-known in the UK independent circuit for his wrestling style.
