Why Was the Live-Action Ben 10 Movie Canceled by Warner Bros?

Fans of the Ben 10 franchise have been eagerly awaiting the release of its new live-action movie. It follows the thrilling journey of a 10-year-old boy named Ben Tennyson. His only mission in his life is to save the world with the help of his powerful Omnitrix device, which can transform him into alien forms. While viewers were excited about Ben’s journey in the live-action form by Warner Bros., in a shocking turn of events it got shelved. So, why was the Warner Bros.’ live-action Ben 10 movie canceled?

Here is everything you need to know about the film and the reason behind its cancellation.

Why did Warner Bros. cancel the live-action Ben 10 movie?

The live-action Ben 10 movie by Warner Bros. was canceled due to the rights getting expired.

Despite the cancellation of the film, it continues to stand on producer Steve Richards’ IMDb page. This made fans curious if the movie is still happening. However, Richards recently dropped an update regarding the film. He provided a clear explanation to The Direct during the red-carpet premiere of his latest film The Killer’s Game that the movie is not happening. He stated:

“I have to admit, I should update my IMDb… So, when I was working with Joel Silver, we had the rights to that, and, yeah, that expired… But it should get made, right?”

For the unknown, the live-action movie was first announced in 2011. Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver were planning to develop the live-action drama, however, they went their separate ways in 2012. The 25-year relationship came to an end following a $30 million compensation. It appears this fallout would have led to the Ben 10 movie never seeing the light of day post its announcement.

Could a live-action Ben 10 movie still be made?

As of now, there is no update regarding the live-action Ben 10 movie being made.

However, there is hope regarding the film happening in the future due to Warner Bros. still having the rights to Ben 10 property, in theory. The sad news is that the studio does not seem to be focused on the project at the moment. Earlier, the studio was planning to take the franchise to new levels with a potentially high-budgeted movie. It would have been the first-ever theatrical venture of the live-action version of Ben 10, which had previously been limited to television. However, the current scenario suggests a long wait for the fans for an update regarding a live-action movie, if it were to be picked up again.

In the meantime, fans can enjoy Ben 10 cartoon streaming on Netflix.
