Why Fans Think the Naruto Live-Action Movie Is Canceled
Fans think that the Naruto Live-Action movie could be canceled or delayed with director Destin Daniel Cretton in talks to sign a new MCU venture. Cretton, who previously worked on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is reportedly being eyed for helming Spider-Man 4. Subsequently, fans are concerned about Naruto’s live-action adaptation’s fate. So, has Naruto’s live-action movie received a release date or is it canceled? Here’s everything you need to know.
Is the Naruto live-action movie canceled or delayed?
Naruto’s live-action adaptation is neither canceled nor delayed.
Naruto’s live-action adaptation was initially announced in 2015, and after more than a decade, fans have received a solid update this year. In February 2024, the anime adaptation was reportedly in development, with Destin Daniel Cretton helming and Tasha Huo serving as screenwriter. Now, in August, Huo officially confirmed the completion of its screenplay in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly. She noted that after Cretton’s final touches, the film will likely move into production.
That said, Marvel and Sony Pictures are also tapping Cretton for their fourth Spider-Man outing, per The Hollywood Reporter. Tom Holland returns to reprise the superhero in the movie, which will hit theatres sometime in July 2026. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will write the script, with Kevin Feige and Sony’s Amy Pascal serving as producers. With Cretton’s involvement in the latest MCU venture and busy schedule, there is a possibility of the Naruto movie being pushed further. Nevertheless, fans will have to wait for an official confirmation from the makers regarding its delay or cancelation.
When will the Naruto live-action movie come out now?
At the time of writing, Naruto’s live-action release date remains undisclosed.
There are high chances of the anime adaptation getting delayed, with Spider-Man 4 slated to release in 2026. As such, if Cretton is set to direct, it might not hit theatres until Spider-Man 4’s release. However, if Lionsgate anticipates an early release, another filmmaker might be approached.
