What Happened to Gabriel Landeskog? NHL Injury Update
Fans of the Colorado Avalanche are concerned about the team’s captain, Gabriel Landeskog, after it was announced that the team might have to start the 2024 season without him due to an injury. The star left-winger has been struggling with injuries since 2022, prompting him to drop out of the 2023 season altogether.
Here are all the latest updates on Gabriel Landeskog’s injury and when he might return to NHL action.
How did Gabriel Landeskog get injured while playing hockey?
Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog’s knee injury dates back to 2020. In 2020, Landeskog’s knee was injured after being struck with a skate blade. Although this incident caused Landeskog to have cartilage issues, the winger continued playing until 2022.
Landeskog went on to opt for a surgical procedure on his knee following Avanlache’s victory in the Stanley Cup. Although many believed he would be back in the play in 2023, Landeskog still hasn’t shown up on the ice rink. The captain underwent a cartilage transplant procedure in 2023 and is currently in the rehabilitation phase. He last played a match in June 2022.
When will Gabriel Landeskog return to play with the Colorado Avalanche?
Gabriel Landesburg’s return is still uncertain as the winger’s knee is still healing. According to NHL.com, when asked about Landeskog’s injury in May 2024, the manager of the Colorado Avalanche said, “His injury has been challenging in a lot of ways but not more challenging than what he’s going through. He loves the game. He’s a massive cog in what we’re trying to do. And he’s earned the right to have as much time as it takes to get back on the ice.”
Landeskog also expressed his hopes at that time regarding a return in September for the 2024 hockey season: “I just want to get healthy, get back to playing hockey, get back to being with my teammates, and play in front of our amazing fans.”
