Taylor Swift: Why Is “Its August” Trending On X (Twitter)?

“Its August” is trending x (formerly known as Twitter), and people are wondering why. As pop megastar Taylor Swift has a song called August, there are speculations that the sudden popularity of the previously mentioned phrase is related to the track.

Here is everything we have learned on why “Its August” is trending on X and what is the lyrical meaning of Swift’s track August.

It appears that “Its August” is indeed trending on X because of Taylor Swift’s fans. However, it’s probably safe to state that at least some accounts used the combination of the words “its” and “August” simply because it’s currently the month of August.

One X user with the handle @taycutie13, shared a clip of Swift performing August live in a concert. “Get in the car y’all its August,” they wrote in the caption. Meanwhile, another user, @anthologistic, used a pro wrestling GIF while referring to the song in the caption. “Me trying to get in the car its august,” they posted.

What is the meaning of Taylor Swift’s song, August?

Taylor Swift released August as the eighth track of her eighth studio album, Folklore (2020). It’s likely no coincidence that August is the eighth month of the year. She penned the song along with singer-songwriter-record producer Jack Antonoff, who shared the producing credits with Swift and actor and her then-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

Swift envisioned August as part of a group of three songs included in Folklore, the two others being Cardigan and Betty. Together, they tell the story of a teenage love triangle between James, Betty, and Augustine. The songs focus on how the three individuals view the triangle at different stages of their lives.

August is written from the perspective of Augustine, who is romantically interested in James. The problem is that James is already with Betty. In the documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, Swift explained the meaning of the song.

“August was about the girl that James had this summer with,” Swift said. “She seems like she’s a bad girl, but really she’s not. She’s a sensitive person who really fell for him, she was trying to seem cool and seem like she didn’t care…but she really did, and she thought they had something really real. And then he goes back to Betty. So, the idea that there’s some bad, villain girl in any type of situation who takes your man is actually a total myth because that’s not usually the case at all. Everybody has feelings, everybody wants to be seen and loved and all Augustine wanted was love.” (via PopCulture)
