For the first time in 20 years, convicted murderer Scott Peterson is giving an interview for Peacock’s new documentary, Face to Face with Scott Peterson. The docuseries from director Shareen Anderson, who had earlier been involved in the production of The Murder of Laci Peterson, will comprise a first on-camera interview with Scott. Anderson sits for “an exclusive series of intimate conversations” with the convicted murderer serving life in prison, reported Variety.
In a highly publicized trial, a jury convicted Scott Peterson of murdering his wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn son. Prosecutors claimed that Scott killed Laci because he was having an affair with another woman, Amber Frey. They further alleged that he wanted to escape his marriage and forthcoming fatherhood. Additionally, Frey revealed she did not know about Scott’s marriage and later assisted authorities in the investigation.
Peacock’s new three-part documentary series, Face to Face with Scott Peterson, will look into the recent developments in the case. Scott, who initially received the death penalty and later life in prison, can possibly get early release. He always maintained his innocence in the killings, and now, the Los Angeles Innocence Project is representing the case. The organization claimed they have been investigating Scott’s “claim of actual innocence.” They also believe that new evidence can prove his innocence.
According to the California Department of Corrections, Scott Peterson is serving his sentence in the Mule Creek State Prison.
What is Scott Peterson’s Peacock documentary series Face to Face release date?
According to Deadline, Peacock’s Face to Face with Scott Peterson will premiere on August 20, 2024. The network also released a teaser trailer, offering a brief preview. It comprises interview clips with Scott’s sister-in-law, Janey Peterson, who has always believed in his innocence. Others who will appear in the three-part series will include Al Brocchini, the former lead detective of Modesto Police Department, and detective Jon Buehler. The convicted murderer’s ex-defense attorney, Lara Yeretsian, and former ABC News Producer Mike Gudgell will also speak.
Variety further reported that Face to Face with Scott Peterson director Shareen Anderson has been working on the case for nearly a decade now. Anderson was first involved in the case when she worked on the acclaimed series The Murder of Laci Peterson. She was the executive producer for the six-part series. Po Kutchins will be serving as director alongside Anderson. Executive producers for the upcoming documentary series will include Liz Yale Marsh, Po Kutchins, and Tim Clancy.
An official description for the Peacock documentary series reads, “It was a case that captivated the country. At 8 months pregnant, Laci Peterson went missing on Christmas Eve, 2002. As the investigation unfolded, her husband Scott was revealed to be a liar, a cheater, and ultimately a murderer. The world’s media hung on every moment of the trial, and Scott was convicted and sentenced to death. Case closed. Or is it?”
The synopsis continues, “For the first time since before his arrest in 2003, Scott speaks on camera in a series of intimate conversations revealing his side of the story with Director and Executive Producer Shareen Anderson, who has been investigating this case for over a decade. While many still believe the jury got it right, Scott’s family and experts close to the case have spent over 20 years committed to uncovering inconsistencies in the evidence as well as finding new information around alternative theories surrounding Laci’s murder.”
Discussing the recent developments, it further says, “The Los Angeles Innocence Project takes over Scott’s case in 2024.” The description calls it a “shocking twist” in the case that people believed the killer saw justice.
Peacock’s Face to Face with Scott Peterson documentary series will exclusively air on the network this August 20, 2024.
