I actually wished there was an alternate ending in which Juliet wakes up in time before Romeo takes the poison. After discussing their situation, Romeo surrenders to police and is handcuffed and put in the back of a police car, but not before Captain Prince has a brief but sympathetic exchange of words with him. Juliet begs her parents to show Romeo mercy as they watch him being driven away. The trial happens with practically the whole city in attendance, and the story plays out differently. It's also in court that the heads of both houses announce a ceasefire peace between them before the court as everyone cheers in relief.
