Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% Review: Compact Keyboard Delivers Top Customization

I was a big fan of the Razer BlackWidow V4 75% when I reviewed it last year. As someone who typically used full-size keyboards, the more compact keyboard allowed me to have all the functionality in a far smaller package that allowed me more desk space. Now Razer is releasing the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%, which takes the keyboard wireless, adds in a built-in OLED display, and allows for more customization than ever before.

The most immediately noticeable upgrade is the wireless capability. Using Razer’s HyperSpeed and HperPolling tech, the keyboard delivers a 4000 Hz polling rate wirelessly. This means it is great for gaming, as it delivers ultra-low latency performance. What’s nice is that it’s still able to use its wireless modes while wired in, thus allowing gamers to stay on the polling rate while charging. While I don’t need this extra capability during my day-to-day work, it was very helpful while gaming as my play on PC was dialed in thanks to the responsive keyboard.

The other key feature for gaming is that it supports Razer Snap Tap. This is turned off by default, so you’ll have to enable it via Razer Synapse 4. What’s really great about this feature, which is best paired with rapid trigger mode, is the ability to make sudden changes in movement. This is especially helpful in shooters, as a quick move out of the way of fire can result in success or defeat. It’s a real advantage and is always going to be turned on when I play games going forward.

The other fancy addition is an OLED display in the upper-right of the keyboard. While I wasn’t sure if this would have a lot of practical use, I actually found it quite helpful rather than a gimmick. Out of the box, users are able to use the Command Dial to go through several helpful modes, such as adjusting the computer volume, changing tracks while listening to music, or quick switching between different apps. However, what really makes it special is the Razer Synapse support, which allows you to create and store up to 100 different modes. This wound up being super helpful for any repetitive tasks as I could store functions to just be a scroll away, and I’m excited to see what uses other people come up with since it’s only limited to your creativity.

Of course, since this is the mechanical keyboard review, I’ve got to talk about the actual typing experience. Not only does it come with Gen-3 switches that make a very satisfying noise, but it also feels great, thanks to the textured doubleshot PBT keycaps. Just like the base keyboard, dampening foam and stabilizers are used so there isn’t any wobblingness and a clean sound is provided.

Also new to the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is a power-saving mode that is very helpful if you want to maximize its battery life. This turns off all of the keyboard lighting and the OLED display, locks the polling rate to 1000 Hz, and pauses Razer Synapse use, although all the base functionality is still available. It’s also worth noting that the keyboard comes with a leatherette wrist rest which is really great for comfort while typing. Both the power-saving mode and wrist rest exemplify the level of thought that has gone into every aspect of the keyboard.

Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% Review: Final Verdict

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% lives up to its name, as it’s an even better version of a keyboard I already loved. Not only does it work great wirelessly (although you can plug it in as well), but the keyboard also features maximum comfort and functionality despite its smaller form. Razer has outdone itself, delivering its best keyboard yet and an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a customizable mechanical keyboard that functions great for work and play.
