The all-female vocal and dance group PassCode has announced that they will perform the opening theme for season 2 of the TV anime As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World. The song, titled “SKILLAWAKE,” marks their second consecutive anime theme song, following their previous release “WILLSHINE,” which served as the opening theme for season 2 of SHY and was their first release after switching labels.
The anime is based on the light novel, As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World: I Inherited a Weak Territory, and If I Increase the Number of Capable Personnel, It Will Become the Strongest Territory, written by Miraijin A and published by Kodansha K Ranobe Books. It’s an account of the main character, Ars Louvent, who is reincarnated in another world. He possesses a unique skill, “Appraisal,” which allows him to discern the stats and abilities of others. Putting this skill to good use, he finds individuals with hidden potential and transforms a weak territory into the strongest. The novel has become a huge hit with over 100 million page views on the novel self-publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narou. The first season of the anime premiered in April 2024, with the second season set to begin airing on September 29.
The new song “SKILLAWAKE” will be available for early streaming on various music platforms starting October 7 and will be released as a CD single on December 18. In addition to the title track, the CD will include a B-side song. The Limited First Edition Blu-ray will feature a complete recording of all 12 songs from PassCode‘s live performance at the VERSUS PASSCODE 2024 Vol.2 event, held on July 1 at Shibuya Spotify O-EAST. This includes the first-ever performance of “WILLSHINE,” which was released on September 11, making it a must-have for fans.

PassCode has been given the honor of performing the opening theme for As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World Season 2. The entire team involved in the production read the original novel before creating the song, and it was so interesting that we all ended up reading it in one go.
“SKILLAWAKE” is a typical fast-paced PassCode song, but it’s actually sung from the perspective of a certain character in the story, so I hope you’ll keep that in mind as you watch the anime.

PassCode consists of four members: Nao Minami, Kaede Takashima, Hinako Ogami, and Emily Arima. They have a versatile repertoire based on a band sound, punctuated by their distinctive shouts and screams, and have performed at numerous major festivals such as SUMMER SONIC and ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL, earning broad support from both rock enthusiasts and idol fans.
After making their major debut in 2016, they released their first international album Ex Libris PassCode in America, Europe, and Canada under the UK’s JPU Records in October 2018. The track “Ichikabachika” from their 2019 album CLARITY was selected as the opening theme for the TV drama Kakegurui season 2 and the movie Kakegurui. In 2020, their single “STARRY SKY,” which was chosen as the theme song for the drama 182 Days Left, earned them their first-ever No. 1 on the Oricon Weekly Single Chart and Billboard JAPAN Weekly Single Chart. They also made their debut appearance on Nippon Broadcasting System’s All Night Nippon 0.
In February 2022, they held their first concert at Nippon Budokan. In 2023, they embarked on their first US tour, “PassCode US / JAPAN TOUR 2023 -GROUNDSWELL-,” which included stops in Dallas, Los Angeles, and New York, as well as 11 cities and 12 venues in Japan.
