The rumour stemmed from a Facebook post made by the user SpaceX Fan Club. It read, “BREAKING: Taylor Swift has reportedly lost an estimated $150 million due to a boycott of her merchandise and memorabilia following her endorsement of Kamala Harris for President.” However, the caption underneath it says, “It was Tay Tay’s biggest mistake- This is Satire,” hence proving that the article is fake. Furthermore, the page is known for posting satirical content, none of which should be taken seriously.

The rumour further gained momentum when someone in the comment section shared a link to another article making the same claim. The article was from a website called Esspots which also specializes in satire and fake news. (as per Sportskeeda)

This article read, “In what might be the most shocking Instagram exodus since the Great Vine Migration of 2017, pop sensation Taylor Swift woke up to find her follower count had dropped by more than 100 million overnight. It also claimed that #UnfollowSwift is spreading online with Swifties condemning her for supporting Harris. However, as already mentioned, none of it is true and the posts are simply satirical content with no truth to it.

Not only has Taylor Swift not her followers, but has gained even more after the endorsement. Instrack analysis shows that she had lost 24,443 followers on September 10, after the endorsement. But the numbers quickly shot up again when she gained she gained 391,975 followers the next day, with a steady rise ever since.
