New The Shining Documentary Details Making of Stanley Kubrick Horror Movie

Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining is one of those movies that leaves you with chills decades later. Just when you thought you’d never see The Overlook Hotel again, a surprise is coming your way. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at all the making of the Stephen King adaptation with its release date announced.

Audiences saw The Shining documentary Room 237 as well as Vivian Kubrick’s BBC documentary. According to IndieWire, the upcoming documentary Shine On – The Forgotten Shining Location will focus on the one remaining filming site of the historic hotel and memories of filming the classic horror film:

“The production of The Shining has been well documented and analyzed, but this is a story which has never been told,” said Katharina Kubrick who was the horror film’s location researcher and the director’s daughter. “Pivotal scenes from the film took place in these areas, so going back to them felt like stepping into the movie itself.”

Good Omen’s Michael Sheen will be Shine On’s narrator. Interview subjects will include Katharina Kubrick, the psychological horror film’s executive producer Jan Harlan, and art director Les Tomkins. Previously believed destroyed, interviewees can visit Elstree Studios to talk about the film’s location scouting and art direction:

“There have been so many rumors about some of the sets from ‘The Shining’ still existing at Elstree Studios, but to actually find them and walk around them was like discovering a holy grail of film history,” said Shine On’s director/producer Paul King in a press statement.

When is the release date of Shine On?

Shine On will be debuting on Stanley Kubrick’s official YouTube channel on July 26 at 11 a.m. PST/2 p.m. EST. This would have been the late filmmaker’s 96th birthday. Until then, make sure to catch the trailer of the upcoming documentary on July 19.
