New Saturday Night Trailer Previews the Chaos Before SNL’s Debut

Sony Pictures has shared a brand new Saturday Night trailer for Jason Reitman’s upcoming comedy thriller, which tells the behind-the-scenes story of Saturday Night Live‘s debut episode premiere. The film will arrive in select theaters on September 27, followed by a wide release on October 11.

“At 11:30pm on October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television – and culture – forever,” reads the film’s synopsis. “Saturday Night is based on the true story of what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live. Full of humor, chaos, and the magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, we count down the minutes in real time until we hear those famous words…”

What happens in the new Saturday Night trailer?

The video highlights the behind-the-scenes chaos during the first episode premiere of the long-running sketch comedy variety show. From NBC executives hoping that the show will fail to cast disagreements, Gabriel LaBelle’s Lorne Michaels and his creative team must face these obstacles in hopes of having a successful premiere.

Saturday Night is directed and produced by Reitman from a screenplay he co-wrote with Gil Kenan. The ensemble cast also includes Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol, Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Kim Matula as Jane Curtin, Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman, Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd, Lamorne Morris as Garrett Morris, Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, Matt Wood as John Belushi, Nicholas Braun as Jim Henson, Willem Dafoe as David Tebet, Finn Wolfhard as an NBC page, Tommy Dewey as Michael O’Donoghue, Nicholas Podany as Billy Crystal, Andrew Barth Feldman as Neil Levy, Kaia Gerber as Jacqueline Carlin, J.K.
