Kyle Chandler in Talks to Star as Lanterns Hal Jordan in DC Studios TV Series

The Lanterns Hal Jordan has officially been found. Deadline reports that Kyle Chandler is in talks to star as one of the most famous members of the Green Lantern Corps in DC Studios’ live-action series.

The report notes that Chandler will play Jordan, a role that had been rumored to be going to various actors over the past few months. Most recently, it was reported that Josh Brolin turned down the role, which subsequently led to Chandler taking on the mantle of the character.

Deadline also reports that DC Studios is looking for an actor to play John Stewart as well. Stewart and Jordan are perhaps the two most well-known members from the Green Lantern franchise. Jordan was played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 live-action movie, while Stewart has been the featured Green Lantern in a number of animated projects. He was also set to be played by Wayne T. Carr in Zack Snyder’s take on Justice League.

What do we know about Lanterns?

Currently, nothing else is really known about Lanterns, with no other casting available. A separate report from THR notes that HBO is looking to begin filming from January-June next year, so more information should come soon.

Lanterns will be executive produced by Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country, Ozark), Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Watchmen) and Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), with the latter two also co-writing the series. It received an official straight-to-series-order at HBO last June 2024, more than a year since the 8-episode project was first announced back in January 2023.

“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” the synopsis for the show reads.
