Krysten Ritter’s Orphan Black: Echoes Series Canceled Before Season 2

AMC has officially canceled Krysten Ritter’s Orphan Black: Echoes after one season, following its run from June to August 2024. The highly anticipated sequel to Orphan Black featured Ritter and was set in the same universe. Despite its connection to the cult favorite, the show struggled to achieve the same level of success. As a result, AMC canceled the series, leaving Orphan Black: Echoes without season 2.

AMC Networks has canceled Orphan Black: Echoes after one season, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

The sequel series took place in the same fictional universe as the original Orphan Black series, which ran from 2013 to 2017. The show aired on AMC, AMC Plus, and BBC America, continuing the Orphan Black franchise.

Set in the year 2052, Krysten Ritter’s Orphan Black: Echoes followed the life of an adult Kira Manning and her wife as they attempted to help an amnesiac woman named Lucy. The series continued the original show’s themes of scientific manipulation, cloning, and the exploration of identity. Anna Fishko developed the series, serving as showrunner, while John Fawcett, the co-creator of the original series, directed and executive produced Echoes.

The cast included Krysten Ritter as Lucy, Keeley Hawes as Dr. Kira Manning, and Rya Kihlstedt as Dr. Eleanor Miller, Kira’s wife. Other notable cast members were Amanda Fix as Jules, Avan Jogia as Jack, and James Hiroyuki Liao as Paul Darros.

Despite the strong ties to its predecessor, Orphan Black: Echoes received mixed reviews from critics and fans. It held a 60% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series struggled to achieve the same success as the original Orphan Black, which garnered significant acclaim and built a dedicated fanbase known as the “Clone Club.” The original series featured Tatiana Maslany, who won an Emmy for her performances in multiple roles in the show.

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes consisted of 10 episodes, with the final episode airing on August 25, 2024. Both Orphan Black and Orphan Black: Echoes are available for streaming on AMC Plus.
