Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 Faces Legal Trouble

Kamal Haasan is set to reprise his role as Senapathy in the upcoming movie Indian 2. The film is just two days from its premiere on July 12, 2024. While it has been almost three decades since the first installment was released, fans are excited to see the actor play the character again. However, amid the buzz around the sequel, the makers seem to have fallen into legal trouble.

In addition to Kamal Haasan, Indian 2 stars Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Nedumudi Venu, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. S Shankar directed the movie, which was bankrolled by Lyca Productions.

What case was filed against Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2?

Following the success of the 1996 film Indian, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 will see his character, Senapathy, get into action once again. It was earlier revealed that Senapathy is 106 years old in the sequel and is still a master of Varma Kalai. Ahead of the movie’s release, a case was heard in the Madurai District Court on July 9.

Per ANI, Aasan Rajendran, a martial arts teacher at Madurai’s HMS Colony, filed a case against the film. He filed a petition stating that Kamal Haasan consulted him for Varma Kalai during the 1996 movie. He was also duly credited for his contribution to the project. However, the upcoming film features his techniques, but the makers did not seek his permission for the same.

He has requested that the court ban Indian 2 in theaters and OTT platforms. As a result, the judge postponed the hearing to July 11 as the makers requested more time to file a response to Aasan Rajendran. More details on the care are awaited.

Indian 2 is slated to be released in theaters on July 12, 2024.
