Is Transformers One a Prequel to Bumblebee & Rise of the Beasts?
Are you keen to learn if Transformers One is a prequel to Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts? This question has been on the minds of many fans eagerly anticipating the new animated movie. Set on Cybertron, Transformers One delves into the origins of the beloved characters Optimus Prime and Megatron, exploring their evolution from allies to enemies. Now, fans can’t help but wonder if this story fits into the larger Transformers universe.
Let’s dive into the details to find out.
Is Transformers One a prequel to past live-action movies?
Transformers One is not a prequel to the previous live-action films. While it serves as a prequel to the broader Transformers franchise, it does not have a direct link to the recent movies, Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts.
In an interview with Variety, director Josh Cooley clarified that the movie is a reboot with its own continuity separate from the prior films or animated series. This allowed them to create their own story.
He stated, “Everybody knew from the very beginning that this was a reboot … a different continuity of what’s been done before. So we had our four main characters [Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee and Arcee] that we all knew had to be in it. And then I got a whole bunch of lore from Hasbro about different versions of what’s happened in the past.”
Not only this, but the creative team also highlighted at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con panel that Transformers One is always a standalone animated film. The movie is set three billion years before the events of the live-action movies. (via Geekireland)
The elite voice cast members of the movie include Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, and Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Hamm, among others.
Transformers One hit U.S. theaters on September 20, 2024.
