Green Day Game Boy Cartridge Plays 8-Bit Version of Hit Dookie Single

The popular punk rock outfit Green Day, and art studio Brain are celebrating 30 years of Dookie in a very interesting way. The effort, titled Dookie Demastered, gives a new perspective on its 15 hit tracks. This includes a Game Boy cartridge that plays one of the band’s most known singles “Welcome to Paradise.”

Green Day Game Boy cartridge plays “Welcome To Paradise”

Yes, that is right. There is a fully playable Game Boy cartridge that brings the player into a small apartment in Oakland, California. Players will have to search for the record in the apartment to play a full 8-bit version of “Welcome to Paradise.” The cartridge is $39, and limited to just 25. It is compatible with Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. The purchase will not include the console, so players will need to pick up one of the three above Game Boy systems to play the cartridge.

Each track has its own unique item tied to it. The quantities of each item, as well as price vary depending on the item. Here is the full list of limited edition Dookie Demastered tracks:

  1. Burnout (Player Piano Roll, $49, 3 available)

Anyone who wants to see these in action before committing to these wild interpretations can do so on the Dookie Demastered website.

“Instead of smoothing out its edges and tweaking its dynamic ranges, this version of Dookie has been meticulously mangled to fit on formats with uncompromisingly low fidelity, from wax cylinders to answering machines to toothbrushes,” says an official description. “The listening experience is unparalleled, sacrificing not only sonic quality, but also convenience, and occasionally entire verses.”

“The result is Dookie Demastered: the album that exploded the format of punk rock, re-exploded onto 15 obscure, obsolete, and otherwise inconvenient formats, the way it was never meant to be heard,” continues the description.

Anyone interested has to enter a drawing for the Green Day Game Boy cartridge, or any of the other 14 unique items. The drawing ends Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. ET.
