Final Jeopardy Question and Answer for July 11, 2024
The Final Jeopardy question and answer for July 11, 2024 is in the category of “Countries of the World” and has the following clue:
- “Until 1991 this country named for a river had a capital whose name means “lakes” in Portuguese”
Click here to reveal the correct answer:
The correct answer is “What is Nigeria?”
The original capital of Nigeria was Lagos before it was moved to Abuja on December 12, 1991. The reason for the change was due to Lagos being both the federal and state capital, which burdened the city with too many administrative responsibilities. So in 1976, General Murtala Mohammed announced that Abuja would be the future capital of Nigeria once the city was developed enough.
An alternate route to the answer is knowing that “lakes” in Portuguese is “lagos” and then knowing that the capital of Nigeria was Lagos.
