The documentary comes from director Remsy Atassi, and tells the story of the best-selling miniseries that was published in 1996. The miniseries came from wirter Mark Waid and artist Alex Ross, the latter of whom also helped develop the concept. The series was set in an alternate future of the DC Universe, and followed an aged Justice League as they return to fight against a new generation of heroes who had become reckless in their fight for justice.

The miniseries was widely beloved upon its release, and is often cited as one of the greatest stories ever told in comic books, and specifically one of the best DC stories of all time. Kingdom Come also served as one of Alex Ross’ earliest works for DC and comics as a whole, and would quickly become iconic, leading to Ross becoming one of the most revered comic artists in the world.
