Crawl 2 Is in the Works With New Cast, Will Likely Be Set in New York City
Crawl 2 is officially in the works.
Crawl was the alligator horror film released in July 2019 that was directed by Alexandre Aja. The Paramount Pictures movie made approximately $91 million at the global box office off an estimated budget of $13.5-15 million.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount is now officially developing a sequel to Crawl.
What do we know about Crawl 2?
The movie is currently expected to begin filming this fall in Europe. It will feature a new cast and will be set in New York City, according to sources speaking with The Hollywood Reporter.
Further plot details remain under wraps at this time.
Aja is returning to direct Crawl 2. Craig Flores and Sam Raimi, both of whom produced the first movie, are also returning to produce the sequel, while Gregory Levasseur and Zainab Azizi will serve as executive producers.
The script is being written by Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan. Deutschman and Pagan previously worked on the scripts for 2015’s Project Almanac and 2015’s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.
What was the original Crawl about?
“When a massive hurricane hits her Florida hometown, Haley (Kaya Scodelario) ignores evacuation orders to search for her missing father (Barry Pepper),” the synopsis for Crawl reads. “Finding him gravely injured in the crawl space of their family home, the two become trapped by quickly encroaching floodwaters. As time runs out to escape the strengthening storm, Haley and her father discover that the rising water level is the least of their fears.”
Prior to Crawl, Aja made 2003’s High Tension, 2006’s The Hills Have Eyes, 2008’s Mirrors, 2010’s Piranha 3D, 2013’s Horns, and 2016’s The 19th Life of Louis Drax. His next film, Never Let Go, stars Halle Berry and will be released in United States theaters on September 27, 2024.
A release date for Crawl 2 has not yet been announced.
