Constantine 2 Update: Keanu Reeves Sequel Gets Promising News
A recent Constantine 2 update has come out that points to some promising news for the Keanu Reeves-led sequel to the 2005 cult classic.
What is the Constantine 2 update?
Speaking to ComicBook, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said that a script for the movie has actually been finished and sent to him, although he hasn’t had the chance to read it yet. “You know it’s in my inbox right now,” said Bonaventura. “Funny enough, I’m too scared to read it, though. I want it to be good so bad. I probably read it in the next few days. When I get on an airplane.”
While next to nothing is known about what the sequel to 2005’s Constantine might be about, director Frank Lawrence has reiterated in the past that he wants the sequel to be properly R-rated.
“One of the biggest things, for me, about the first one was we followed, per Warner Bros., the rules to make a PG-13 movie in terms of violence, blood, language, sexuality. But the ratings board gave us a hard R based on their the gray zone of intensity,” said Lawrence in an interview with TheWrap. “And my big, big regret was that we have an R-rated movie that’s really a PG-13 movie, and if I was going to have to go have an R, I would have really made an R-rated movie. I would have made it much scarier and much more violent, and I would have really made an R-rated movie.”
The first Constantine movie was released in February 2005. Along with Reeves, it starred Rachel Weisz as Angela Dodson, Shia LaBeouf as Chas Kramer, Tilda Swinton as Gabriel, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Father Hennessy, Djimon Hounsou as Papa Midnite, Gavin Rossdale as Balthazar, and Peter Stormare as Lucifer.
The movie made approximately $230.9 million at the global box office office an estimated $70-$100 million budget.
