Colin Farrell Wore Prosthetic ‘Penguin Penis’ to Play Oz Cobb
Colin Farrell had to undergo a complete transformation to play the role of Oz Cobb in HBO’s The Penguin. According to Farrell, that even included adding on a fake crotch.
Speaking to People ahead of The Penguin’s premiere tonight, Farrell reflected on the arduous makeup process it took to become Cobb. One scene in particular saw Cobb naked (although the audience can’t see anything), and Farrell remarked that artist Mike Marino fashioned a “penguin penis” for him to wear.
“Marino is so twisted and brilliant. He was like, ‘I made you a penguin penis,’” Farrell said. “I said, ‘Really? They’re not even going to see it. I don’t know if I want to walk on set with a penguin penis.’ And he was like, ‘No, no, no, dude. It’s detachable, it’s Velcro. It’s got a beak at the end of it.’ So I had a penguin penis.”
What do we know about The Penguin?
The Penguin will chronicle Cobb’s rise to power in Gotham’s seedy underbelly, giving fans a look into how he becomes the formidable crime kingpin he’s known to be. Joining Farrell are Rhenzy Feliz, Cristin Milioti, Michael Zegen, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Francois Chau, Carmen Ejogo, David H. Holmes, and more.
The 8-episode series is written by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, with Craig Zobel directing the first two episodes. Executive producers are The Batman’s Dylan Clark and Matt Reeves, Farrell, LeFranc, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassanand, and Rafi Crohn. It is a joint project between 6th and Idaho, DC Entertainment, Dylan Clark Productions, and Warner Bros. Television.
