I like the "heartbeat" that you hear every time something horrible is about to happen. It reminds me of similar sound effects they used in 1960's horror films to let the audience know to cover their eyes!
Fun fact. Jones’s reaction to the Alien’s sudden appearance was achieved by first coaxing him out, as Bret did. And then revealing a dog present.

The way it jumps down from the rafters without a sound and as if it's gliding and floating down really shows how light and nimble it is while also being something that weighs over 3000 pounds really adds to its scariness

Scott and his editor really ramped up the tension in this film. Somewhat like Jaws, the creature's appearance with little screen time magnified its danger.

For me this is the best film in the Alien saga although I like Aliens & Alien 3 I much prefer the claustrophobic, less action horror elements that (Alien 1979) was & still is.
This film has a lot to teach current horror films. The scary thing is much more in what you don't see than in what you do see!
