Is Simone Biles Injured or Hurt at 2024 Paris Olympics?
Fans are worried that gymnast Simone Biles is injured or hurt after the women’s qualifications at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday, July 28. During the warm-ups for the floor exercise, her second event during Subdivision 2 of qualifications, Biles seemed to hurt her left ankle. The incident was severe enough to cause her to leave the floor with U.S. team doctor Dr. Marcia Faustin for several minutes before returning with her ankle taped. Here’s the latest update on a potential Simone Biles injury during the 2024 Olympic Games.
Is there a Simone Biles injury update for the 2024 Paris Olympics?
The latest update on the Simone Biles injury is that it is actually a minor calf issue that she experienced several weeks ago, as revealed by her coach, Cecile Landi. Biles will be able to continue competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This is according to several posts on X by Emily Giambalvo, a reporter from The Washington Post. At first, many thought that Biles had suffered an ankle injury. She seemed to favor her left leg throughout the floor routine. This might have been one of the reasons she needed to step out of bounds during the landing of her incredibly difficult Biles II, a triple-twisting double back, in the opening pass. It also may have caused her to decide not to perform a usual stag jump after the Biles I.
Landi clarified that Biles felt “better at the end” of the event and that specifically she felt better before her bars routine. Indeed, Biles performed her signature vault, the Yurchenko double-pike, and then her uneven bars routine without much issue. She did poke fun at herself during the vault event by jokingly crawling toward the runway and remarking that she needs a wheelchair.
We will have to see if this calf injury will flare up again during the rest of the Olympic Games. Luckily, it doesn’t look as severe as her incident with the twisties during the Tokyo Olympics. Biles has many upcoming events at the Paris Olympics, including the team final, all-around, and likely apparatus finals for the floor exercise, balance beam, and vault. We will know more about whether she makes those finals once the fifth and final subdivision in qualifications has concluded later today, July 28.
