Giancarlo Esposito’s Captain America: Brave New World Character Revealed

After mysteriously appearing in the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, Giancarlo Esposito revealed just who he’ll be in the upcoming movie.

Who does Giancarlo Esposito play in Captain America: Brave New World?

During Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Esposito revealed what many rumors had already begun theorizing: he will be none other than Sidewinder, the infamous villain and head of the Serpent Society.

In the world of Marvel Comics, Sidewinder — real name Seth Voelker — has teleportation powers, and is the founder of the criminal organization known as the Serpent Society. The group often features characters like Anaconda, Asp, Bushmaster, and more in its ranks, and often clashes with Captain America in the comics.

The upcoming Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader. Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Giancarlo Esposito, Seth Rollins, and Rosa Salazar also appear in the film.

“After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

Julius Onah directs the new MCU movie. Onah previously made 2015’s The Girl Is in Trouble, 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox, and 2019’s Luce.

Captain America: Brave New World releases in United States theaters on February 14, 2025.
