Agree to disagree? IMo, I LIKED the female character Emma played. She was supposed to be a nice girl – her girlfriends liked her( she was fun and nice), her original boyfriend liked her, and Seb liked her when he got over himself enough to get to know her- she seemed kind and fun. ( Too “run of the mill” for you? Well, personally, I generally like nice people-) And I understood that she was very passionate- passionate at being an actress- and I understood that that was because she grew up loving movies! And the people in them – the glamor… the clothes… everything that goes with that. As they used to say, she had “ stars in her eyes”! And she ( the character) was talented at it – at conveying characters and stories- as evidenced by the emotional audition when someone was supposedly breaking up with her.
So natural in conveying that shock and heartbreak! I think you just related more to Seb’s character and enjoyed it more. I admired himand Ryan portraying him – very much, but I personally could relate to Emma’s character, and I think she did a great job portraying a nice girl with stars in her eyes! – AND real talent, although she lost self esteem along the way- just like millions of people in real life who want to act but hit a brick wall. -To me, both Emma and Ryan were completely believable and likeable in their roles and did a wonderful job at conveying this story! But of course, some will like one better, and others will like the other better! I say, both great!I love Emma Stone's acting 😂👏🏼
