My favorite part of an otherwise awesome movie. Why can't we have modern movies like this? I don't even go to the theatre anymore (Dune being an exception). Where is the heroism and bravery in movies nowadays such as this….very frustrating. This movie is damn near perfect.

of all of the knighting scenes in movies i have seen, this one is THE definitive one. were i to, by some strange twist of fate, be knighted, i'd pull the guy doing it aside ahead of time, and be like 'look, you need to say these exsct words…'

While this is undoubtedly the most visually stylized and quirky of all theatrical adaptations of the Arthurian legend, it still stands as the best of them. And as a bonus it features Captain Picard as a knight, foreshadowing the eventual real world knighting of Patrick Stewart.

It always tears me up seeing such humility and honor those things make a man great.

From a D&D standpoint. Excalibur is an Artifact weapon. To touch it is to have your alignment changed to Lawful Good. The moment that Arthur gave him the sword his Alignment changed from more of a Chaotic Neutral out for himself to the Acoustic and Honorable Lawful Good. After the change he was forced to realize Arthur as the one true King. That is the kind of thing a true Artifact Weapon can do.

Some would call this silly, but they don't understand the context, as Arthur knows a sword from a stone does not make him a king but rather his skill in battle, his bravery, and his willingness to throw himself into death's face without fear yet the nobility to kneel before a knight that would quickly kill him as slaying a common thief to gain Excalibur's power yet gain the trust and loyalty of that said knight is empowering. He went from a common boy who got lucky to being the only one truly worthy of Excalibur, Uryen realizes Excalibur wasn't in the hands of a simple squire but rather a noble warrior his pride shunned and he failed to recognize dishonoring himself knowing he could not pull such feats. Even Merlin, knowing something similar would play out, but not so soon as that's how his powers work, sees the outcome, just not how it comes to pass.
