Beetlejuice 2 MPA Rating Revealed, Is Higher Than Original Movie
Moviegoers can expect a bloodier sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 cult classic, as the MPA rating for Beetlejuice 2 has been revealed — and it’s even higher than the original one.
Titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the upcoming horror comedy will be gracing cinemas on September 6. In addition to Burton directing the sequel, the second Beetlejuice movie will also see the return of some familiar faces, including Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz.
What is Beetlejuice 2’s MPA rating?
While the 1988 Beetlejuice was a rated “PG” feature, the Warner Bros. sequel has been rated “PG-13” by the MPA for “violent content, macabre and bloody images, strong language, some suggestive material and brief drug use.” The original film was released years after the “PG-13” rating was created.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice picks up 36 years after the events of the 1988 flick, centering on the Deetz family’s return to Winter River after the passing of family patriarch Charles Deetz. Lydia then sees herself dealing with Betelgeuse once again after her daughter, Astrid, accidentally summons the mysterious creature.
The official synopsis for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reads: “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”
The film also stars Jenna Ortega as Astrid, Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson, Monica Bellucci as Delores, Justin Theroux as Rory, and more.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters on September 6.
