Nintendo Switch Online Adds 3 GBA Classics That Never Came to US
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansions Pack gives subscribers access to classic games from retro consoles like the N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance. The latest update adds the first three Densetsu no Starfy games, known as The Legend of Starfy in the West. Until now only the fifth game ever released outside Japan.
What are the new Game Boy Advance games on Nintendo Switch Online?
Developed by Scarlet Nexus developer Tose, the first three Legend of Starfy games were released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, 2003, and 2004. As the name implies, they follow the adventures of Starfy, the Prince of the flying Pufftop Kingdom. Densetsu no Stafy 4 was released on the Nintendo DS in 2006, and there is no indication of it coming to Nintendo Switch Online. Thus, it seems destined to remain a Japan exclusive, at least for the time being.
The first Densetsu no Starfy opens with Starfy shaken out of his home in Pufftop Palace by a sudden thunderstorm and tornadoes. After falling into the ocean, he embarks on an epic journey to return home. He helps various characters along the way and faces the villain Ogura, who was previously sealed in Starfy’s magic Jar.
The sequel sees Starfy on a mission to rescue his mother from Ogura’s clutches. “The revenge-driven ruffian ransacks Pufftop and steals away Starfy’s mother in the ensuing kerfuffle, leaving Starfy no choice but to dive head-first into his next adventure,” says Nintendo. “With his best friend Moe in tow and challenges aplenty to face, has his work cut out for him.”
The third and final Legend of Starfy game from the GBA era sees Starfy’s sister, Starly, join him and Moe. Together, they embark on a mission to stop Ogura once and for all. The trio will also encounter an unexpected ally in the form of Wario. Mario’s evil counterpart is hunting for treasure in Stage 8’s Undersea Ruins.
Nintendo fans gain access to all three games by subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Membership costs $50 a year for one user or $80 for a family plan, which allows up to eight members.
