Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Cast Adds Matthias Schoenaerts as DCU Villain

The Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow cast has found its main villain, with THR reporting that Belgian Matthias Schoenaerts has been cast in the DC Studios film.

The film is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic based on Supergirl. While Schoenaerts’ exact role is unknown, the villain in the comic series was Krem of the Yellow Hills, a man who kills the mother of Ruthye Marye Knoll, a warrior who then seeks Supergirl’s help in getting revenge.

Schoenaerts will join the project that’s set to be led by Milly Alcock, who will star in the film as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, and the cousin to Superman. Schoenaerts is best known for his roles in films like Loft, Bullhead, Rust and Bone, and most recently The Regime, the HBO political satire series starring Kate Winslet.

What do we know about Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow?

The film will be directed by Craig Gillespie, who is known for making 2007’s Lars and the Real Girl, 2011’s Fright Night, 2017’s I, Tonya, 2021’s Cruella, and, most recently, 2023’s Dumb Money. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow releases in the United States in theaters on June 26, 2026.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second feature film entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s forthcoming DCU following 2025’s Superman. House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock will play the role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, while additional casting has not yet been announced

“Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but finds her life without meaning or purpose,” the solicitation for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1 reads. “Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for? Wherever she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.”
