Bully Ray’s Intriguing Take on the Roman Reigns & Cody Rhodes WWE SmackDown Segment
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has shared an interesting take on Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns‘ SmackDown segment. Two weeks ago, Rhodes announced that he would be teaming up with Reigns to face Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at WWE Bad Blood.
Following the match announcement, fans were excited to see former nemesis teaming up to fight the new Bloodline. However, on the latest edition of WWE SmackDown, fans witnessed an incredible segment between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes at Georgia Tech’s field in Atlanta.
The tension was intense as the two stars came face-to-face in the middle of the field, both making stylish entries in cars. Reigns reflected on his days playing football at Georgia Tech, claiming it as his territory. He challenged Rhodes, questioning what he had done for Atlanta. Rhodes fired back by emphasizing his family’s deep-rooted history in the city, especially their legacy at the State Farm Arena.
As they shifted focus to their upcoming tag team match at WWE Bad Blood, Rhodes warned Reigns to watch his back during the tag match. Reigns replied that he would, but also stated he would come for the title once everything was settled. This pre-taped segment, taking place inside Georgia Tech’s field, received huge praise from fans. However, Bully Ray believes the promotion purposely booked the segment at this venue.
Bully Ray reveals why WWE chose not to host the segment in the arena
On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray explained why WWE chose to stage the segment in a stadium instead of an arena. He emphasized that having the faceoff in a stadium prevented the crowd from influencing the dynamic of the segment.
“What was there not to love about it? The way Roman pulled up, the way Cody pulled up, the way they met in the middle of the field. What being in that particular place at that particular moment in time meant. What the city meant. Everything about it was awesome,” he said.
Ray appreciated “deep-rooted storytelling” and remarked that “the best thing the WWE did was not have that face-to-face happen in an arena.” He added, “If this promo would’ve happened in an arena, you guys tell me who would’ve been cheered and who would’ve been booed.”
While Ray made some interesting notes, it raises curiosity about how the crowd would have reacted if it had taken place in an arena. However, WWE’s decision to book the pre-taped segment at Georgia Tech’s field has now added more intensity to the upcoming match at Bad Blood.
