What is the Taylor Swift ‘No It’s Becky’ T-Shirt Meme?

Taylor Swift‘s “No It’s Becky” t-shirt had become a meme back in 2014 when the pop icon wore it while in New York City. The line was a reference to a viral social media post involving Swift. Now, fans are wondering what the meme was all about.

So, here are all the details about the ‘No It’s Becky’ meme and the Taylor Swift t-shirt that garnered immense popularity.

Taylor Swift ‘No It’s Becky’ T-shirt meme explained

Taylor Swift wore the “No It’s Becky” t-shirt 10 years ago in September 2014. Recently, a user on X (formerly Twitter) going by the name Taylor Throwbacks shared images of Swift dating back to 2014, in which she can be seen wearing the aforementioned t-shirt. The post was made to pay tribute to the debut of the “No It’s Becky” t-shirt, the origins of which are connected to an old meme posted on Tumblr.

In 2014, when Swift was preparing for the release of her album, 1989, a meme took over social media platforms. A photo of Swift from her high school days was posted on Tumblr and in the caption, the original poster claimed that the person in the photo was her friend Becky. In the caption, the poster stated, “This is a picture of my friend Becky.” The poster claimed that her friend passed away after smoking marijuana at a party and further advised people not to use the substance. They wrote, “Please don’t wind up like Becky.”

The inspiration for the t-shirt, however, comes from a comment on the post. After the post was shared, a person commented saying that the one in the photo is no one else but Taylor Swift. In response to this, a user wrote, “no it’s becky,” which blew up as a meme instantly.

Swift not only sported the “No It’s Becky” t-shirt, but she also made a post on Tumblr wearing it and wrote, “I’m kind of rethinking the album cover,” hinting at changing the cover of 1989.
