What happened to Julio Urias? Domestic Violence Case Explained

The situation surrounding Julio Urias has sparked widespread attention. Questions have arisen about the events leading to his recent legal troubles, and with little official information available, fans want to know exactly what happened.

Here is everything to know about Julio Urias’ domestic violence case.

Julio Urias’ domestic violence case explained

Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías was arrested in September 2023 for a domestic violence incident involving his wife. The incident occurred outside BMO Stadium during an LAFC soccer game. A recently released video, obtained by The Los Angeles Times, shows Urías charging at his wife. He then pushed her against a fence and pulled her by the hair. The incident in the video aligns with earlier reports. Several bystanders intervened before security restrained him. Although initially arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, Urías ultimately pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery in May 2024. He was sentenced to 36 months of probation, required to complete 30 days of community labor, and ordered to attend a year-long domestic violence counseling course.

This was not Urías’ first domestic violence incident. In 2019, he was suspended for 20 games by MLB after allegedly pushing a woman in a parking lot. However, no charges were filed. Following his 2023 arrest, Urías was placed on administrative leave by MLB, ending his season with the Dodgers. If suspended again, he would become the first player in MLB history to be suspended twice under the league’s domestic violence policy, which was introduced in 2015. Despite this ongoing investigation, the exact timeline for any potential disciplinary action from MLB remains uncertain.

Julio Urías was a key figure for the Dodgers, playing a crucial role in their 2020 World Series victory and leading the National League in ERA in 2022. However, his baseball future is now uncertain as he faces charges including spousal battery, domestic battery, false imprisonment, and assault.
