Marc Maron to Star in Terminal Cancer Comedy Movie In Memoriam
Actor and comedian Marc Maron is set to star in the terminal cancer comedy movie In Memoriam from multiple Emmy winner Rob Burnett (The Fundamentals of Caring).
Burnett, a recipient of five Emmy wins as well as 27 Emmy nominations, is set to write and direct the project for Invention Studios (Thelma). In Memoriam is scheduled to start filming on October 14 of this year.
In addition to starring, Maron will also produce the project alongside Burnett, Invention Studios’ Nicholas Weinstock and Divya D’Souza, and Avalon’s David Martin.
What is In Memoriam about?
In Memoriam will center on a veteran actor (set to be portrayed by Maron), whose discovery of his terminal cancer diagnosis will lead him to obsess over landing a spot in the Academy Awards’ “In Memoriam.” It is a segment intended to honor the industry’s members who have recently passed away.
Per Deadline’s description, “the film follows a veteran Hollywood actor (Maron) who, after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, becomes obsessed with securing a spot in the Academy Awards’ ‘In Memoriam’ montage. This leads to a heartfelt exploration of ego, humility, and legacy.”
A comedian with frequent appearances in Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien in the 1990s and 2000s, Maron is best known for his long-running weekly podcast WTF with Marc Maron. The podcast, which started in 2009, currently consists of over 1,500 episodes as of this writing. The podcast has also received awards from the Academy of Podcasters, Ambies, and iHeartRadio Podcast Awards.
He is also known for starring in Netflix’s comedy-drama GLOW, for which he received Critics’ Choice and SAG Award nominations. His other acting credits include Maron, The Horror of Dolores Roach, The Order, Genie, To Leslie, Respect, Stardust, Spenser Confidential, Joker, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and Flock of Dudes, among others.
