Ryan Murphy’s American Love Story & Studio 54 Series Get Updates

Two of Ryan Murphy’s shows at FX, American Love Story and Studio 54: An American Crime Story, received updates regarding their development.

What is the latest on American Love Story?

In an interview with Variety, executive producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson confirmed that American Love Story, which chronicles the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, is moving forward at FX.

“We’re very much intending to [tell that story],” Jacobson said when asked about American Love Story’s status.

“We have great scripts on that. We’re trying to figure out when it’ll land,” Simpson explained. “It is a story that really resonates right now. It’s amazing. A lot of younger women are looking to her as sort of a representational icon of a certain period of time that’s really fascinating, and hopefully, we’ll be able to bring that to the screen soon.”

While it’s good news for American Love Story, Studio 54: American Crime Story received a disappointing update. Studio 54, announced in 2021 alongside American Love Story, is probably not happening. Simpson explained how their team has been cautious about announcing shows far in advance.

“The reason we can never announce anything, ever again, is because once, Ryan said ‘Studio 54’ and now it’s 10 years later, and in every interview we have, people bring it up. Nothing against you,” Simpson said. “We develop multiple things and multiple ideas. It’s not that we’re trying to be secretive, we’re seeing what bubbles up and what comes in. We’ve learned if we announce something, it becomes a Wikipedia entry.”

American Crime Story has aired three iterations: The People v. O. J. Simpson, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, and Impeachment.

The latest spinoff of the American Story franchise, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, is currently airing on FX.
