I think he lost her the moment Tom mentioned how Gatsby got his money. She would’ve just come to that conclusion maybe a day or two or a liaison or two later. But him losing his temper like that, proving all the things said were true and then pushing and pushing her into a corner kind of made her go from “I need to think” to “oh no, I don’t like this, I don’t think this is going to work.”
For this scene in the book, there is no evidence that his reaction is THIS overblown. I approve of around 95% of the liberties Luhrmann takes, but this one I'm not so sure.
I read the book, and I can safely say that BOOK Gatsby would be shocked at the sudden rage-out of his film counterpart. In the novel, Gatsby maintained his good natured personality and continued to stand firm against Tom with an aura of self-confidence.
They were trying to switch destinies. Classy and intelligent bloodlines were being destroyed, so that they could steal their name to make money. They made them look bad. Tom Buchanan was the true criminal that was born in poverty. He was jealous of Jays true class and intelligence. What happened to the Tesla’s?
Back then people of higher status would never lose their temper like Gatsby did. They had to be more calm and collected, so when he attacked Tom. That was a sign that Gatsby came from new money and not from years of wealth.
i love that when tom continues to escalate the situation & further upset daisy, she goes to sit with nick. like that’s who makes her feel the safest and the calmest, even though jordan (her best friend) and gatsby (the man she’s madly in love with) are also there
It perfectly captured the roaring 20s, the wild unrestrained behavior of the wealthy of that era, it was colorful and vibrant but also heartfelt. Joel Edgerton was the perfect Tom Buchanan
Gatsby and Tom are equal when it comes to their net worth. So Gatsby is right about that. The only difference is that one is entirely self-made while the other just inherited his money from this parents🤷♂️Just to point that out
Es admirable a actuacion de todos.
Joel Edgerton is very underrated actor
Leonardo's rage reminded me the same from Romeo + Juliet, when he killed Tybalt.
The acting is so terrific

what does he say before Gatsby explosion? 1:42
This isnt the moment gatsby lost daisy he never had her and from the beggining she made that very clear.
Amazing that people born with money think they are better than people who have made money.
The end result of anger is always regret.

So this is why men shouldn’t get mad and show emotions. Just the way it is now.
1:53 When that one relative would not stop bringing up politics.
Shocking how Leonardo DiCaprio can fly into violent fits of rage. This example of him as Gatsby is one notable example.
This movie never gets the credit it deserves

Daisy just pissed me tf off….she played everyone and has not a care in the world….
