It was widely reported that André Marín had passed away on Monday, September 16, a little over a week after undergoing a double lung transplant. TUDN, the Mexican network where he served as a sports commentator, confirmed the reports of his death.

“On behalf of TelevisaUnivision, we express our deepest condolences for the death of our dear colleague and close friend André Marín, a distinguished sports journalist,” said a statement in Spanish released on the network’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle. “We regret his passing and send our condolences and our sincere condolences to his family.”

A post on the network’s official site added, “His charisma, character, and analytical skills quickly made him one of the most beloved and recognized faces in sports journalism in Mexico and around the world.”

Back in 2022, Marín disclosed that he had been struggling with a bacterial infection for several years. He suffered from pneumonia and was hospitalized multiple times before the double lung transplant.

Per a report by Infobae, Marín suffered from an infection caused by a bacteria called Clostridium difficile in 2020. This later affected his lung tissues. According to the same outlet, Marín’s cause of death was complications related to his recovery following the surgery.

Marín began his career as a journalist at age 14 when he became a production assistant at the now-defunct TV network Imevsión. He joined TV Azteca before becoming part of Fox Sports Mexico in 2011. There, he served as the host of La Última Palabra. He eventually left Fox to work for TUDN.

Marín extensively covered the Mexican national team for a long time and wrote a column for the Mexican newspaper Excélsior.
