I just watched this film for the first time at 23. I did side with Melvin pretty fast cause you could tell he was genuine that he knew his actions as a younger man were foolish, selfish, and dangerous. He stated from the beginning that he wanted to help not as a father but as someone who has been in his shoes before. After the fight he was more mad at letting himself be enabled by someone like the people he was around in his younger years. Was completely expecting a raunchy comedy but was completely suprised at how good of a story it put together.
This wasn't one of the most powerful scenes in the movie. This was one of the most powerful scenes in ANY movie. I don't cry watching movies, but I cried watching this scene.
I remember when I got my cherry popped and took out my first. My dad did this for me. Thankfully time helped me get over it I'm 40yrs old now successful and with s family
When i was a kid i thought Jody was the good guy and Melvin was the bad Guy, watching This as an adult i realize Jody needed a father figure and was unconsciously denying himself that by resisting Melvin but you can see in this Scene he finally "Let's go" & gives in to that older masculine energy he never received growing up
This is such a powerful scene. After baby boy didn't show him respect, big man treats him like a father treats a son…and showed him the way of the OG. He saved that boy's life.
It's so crazy how in a later scene his mom says to him, "Melvin said y'all had a lil talk" and not a word was spoken between them, but the silence and their actions said everything that needed to be said at that moment

The minute Melvin took that gun from Jody and wiped it clean they formed a lifetime bond!!
Melvin is a real 1. Respect.
Psalms 145:9
“The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.”
King James Version (KJV)
No words said just understanding that’s how you write a movie rest in peace Mr singleton
Melvin was a real one for disposing of that murder weapon knowing it would have been his 3rd strike risking it all for an obstruction charge.

Ving Rhames Is A Boss
Hollywood once again showing broken black families
Melvin was a real one Jody was just to young to see it frfr
A lot of black men are living this way and nobody really cares about it to do anything about it my heart really goes out as a father of 3 young men
Badass moment

Melvin was the man in this movie.
I won't lie this part makes me cry.
Palms up to let Jody know he comes in peace
Dope scene, he is taking the place of his father in this scene – protecting him and keepin him from experiencing what he went thru- incarceration.
1:52 legendary meme 😂
