Adam Copeland Injury Update Given Ahead of Potential AEW Return

Former AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland competed in a major match at AEW Double or Nothing against Malakai Black. As the defending champion, Copeland put his title on the line in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match.

Despite both stars giving their all in the ring, Adam Copeland emerged victorious. However, his triumph came at a cost, as he sustained a serious injury. During the match, Copeland attempted an elbow drop from the top of the cage onto Black, who was lying on a barbed wire-wrapped table. Copeland landed on his feet before collapsing onto Malakai.

A few days after the show, Copeland revealed that he had broken his tibia and needed surgery because of the injury. Consequently, he had to vacate the TNT Championship, which he had previously won from his best friend, Christian Cage, on an episode of AEW Dynamite. With Copeland sidelined for over three months, the former champion has now given an update on his injury.

Adam Copeland provides update on injury & recovery progress

Former AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland recently discussed his injury and recovery with ComingSoon’s Editor-in-Chief, Tyler Treese. Copeland shared that he kept up with his training while recovering, which helped him stay fit.

He stated, “Good, good. Again, what was kind of great about [PurePlank] is I didn’t have to stop doing that portion of my training. I feel like sometimes with surgery, it’s easy to get outta shape, especially with a leg injury, because you’re kind of sitting there, you’re lying there, your legs are up. But that didn’t happen this time, which was great.”

“In terms of recovery, yesterday was three months since the surgery. I’m back walking. Everyday life doesn’t affect me at all. I got in the ring the other day just to feel kind of where it’s at, and there are still areas where I need to strengthen and get the flexibility and the range of motion back because the range of motion with what we do is so important. If your foot is locked into only coming up this far, that could be a problem. So now I’m just at the stage where it’s getting my mobility back and then getting the strength and explosivity back,” he continued.

Copeland shared that although he is back in the ring, he still needs to work on rebuilding strength and flexibility in his injured leg. In the meantime, Jack Perry has claimed the TNT Championship. It will be interesting to see if Copeland targets the title he never lost upon his return. Only time will tell.
