WWE Breaks Silence on AEW Crossover Show

WWE is gearing up for its next premium live event, SummerSlam, this Saturday. Recently, the promotion addressed the possibility of a crossover show with AEW. Since AEW’s launch in 2019, fans have eagerly imagined a show that combines stars from both AEW and WWE.

In 2022, AEW established a working relationship with NJPW, resulting in the pay-per-view event AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door. This event featured crossover matches between talents from both promotions. Over the years, fans have enjoyed classic bouts such as Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay, Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada, and other dream matchups.

As AEW initiates a cross-promotion with NJPW and WWE establishes working relationships with TNA Wrestling and Pro Wrestling NOAH, fans are hopeful for a future crossover show between the two promotions. While the prospect of a WWE and AEW crossover is exciting for fans, it does not share the same enthusiasm among WWE’s higher-ups.

WWE’s response to the AEW crossover show: ‘No Interest’

WWE Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Head of Communications, Chris Legentil, recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of a crossover show with AEW. During his appearance on the Sports Media podcast with Richard Deitsch, Legentil addressed whether the promotion is interested in hosting a crossover show with All Elite Wrestling.

He stated, “No interest. I just want to make clear. There is definitely a variety of excellent talent that don’t currently reside in WWE. There is no shot there that is being fired. It’s just to say, the answer to your question is no conversation has been had in relation to that.”

While Legentil recognizes talents outside WWE’s roster, he confirms that no discussions have occurred about a crossover show with AEW. Recently, Tony Khan, President of All Elite Wrestling, expressed his interest in making such a crossover show. However, WWE currently appears uninterested in collaborating with Khan and his promotion.

While a crossover show is not currently in the works, both promotions are preparing for their upcoming major events: WWE SummerSlam on August 3 and AEW All In on August 25.
