Shelley Duvall was nominated for worst actress and we all know she did a fine job in this movie. She only got nominated because she was not attractive to most people. Had this been some cheesecake actress, people would still be claiming that they were the best comedian. Julia Louis Dreyfus winning an Emmy for Seinfeld is proof positive of this theory.
I miss the 80's, those were the best days of American life.

Best movie mom ever against the worst movie dad ever. The movie and Shelly’s performance have all aged much better than the negative criticisms during its initial release. Definitely ranks up there with “Psycho” as one the greatest horror movies ever. Very sad that she suffered so much late in life.
